What is Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance?

What is Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance?

Accidental death & dismemberment insurance is insurance designed to pay out a lump sum if you've suffered an accident such as the loss of a limb, loss of total vision, or even death.

Accidental death and dismemberment claims are most frequently denied for 2 main reasons:

- Was the injury suffered an accident? This can be fairly controversial, and what you might think as an accident isn't always recognized as such.
- Is there a total loss of use? For instance, did the accident leave the claimant in a wheelchair permanently or is there some mobility remaining?

Insurance companies often take a hard line with the two above points and will deny claims that are either deemed not accidental or in which the claimant still has some use over their mobility.
