Parkland Corporation Cuts 100 Corporate Jobs Amid IT Outsourcing Shift

Parkland Corporation is laying off 100 corporate employees, including 80 from its IT department, as it outsources core technology operations to global consulting firm Accenture. An additional 20 IT staff will transition to Accenture. The move, beginning at the end of 2025, is aimed at enhancing Parkland’s technological capabilities, particularly in improving system reliability at the retail level, such as point-of-sale functionality.

Company executives stressed the layoffs are not tied to cost-cutting efforts, despite a broader restructuring strategy that has seen at least 300 U.S. job cuts since early 2023. Instead, the IT overhaul is part of Parkland’s long-term goal to double cash flow per share and reach $2.5 billion in adjusted EBITDA by 2028.

This decision reflects a growing trend in the Canadian job market, where companies are turning to outsourcing and automation to stay competitive amid economic headwinds. Particularly in tech and corporate services, outsourcing continues to displace domestic roles, signaling a shift in demand from in-house technical talent to external service providers—impacting job stability in sectors once considered secure.
