The exact causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is still unknown, although there are various theories about where the condition stems from. It's important for those with CFS to implement some restful tips.
For those suffering from CFS, the cycle of constant fatigue and restless sleep can be a daunting and exhausting experience. Personal relationships, professional participation, and mental health are all affected by the consistent and unrelenting feeling of being tired - not to mention the muscle pain, digestive issues, constant headaches, and frequent sore throats that can accompany CFS.
Although there isn’t a cure for CFS, here are some restful tips for managing your sleep in order to feel more well rested.
Establish Sleep Routines
Ensuring that you go to sleep and wake up at the same time can increase your chances of getting more restful sleep. When it comes to ensuring your body can get used to a routine, consistency is key.
Protect Your Space
Making the space you sleep in a comfortable, quiet, and stress-free place is more important than you might think. Try to keep your computer at your desk, your phone turned on silent, and keep hobbies or other tasks away from your bedroom.
Expose Yourself To Sunlight
Your amount of daylight exposure affects your circadian rhythm. Lack of sunlight can also contribute to seasonal affective disorder during the winter months which can pile on to or exacerbate symptoms of CFS like lack of energy, moodiness, or depression.
Get Up and Move
Even though you are tired during the day, and may not feel like it, even short walks or light stretching early in the day and at least four hours before bedtime can help you get better sleep and give you more energy during the day, by increasing blood flow, releasing blood flow, and triggering body temperature which promotes sleep.
Get Co-Existing Medical Conditions Treated
There might be a chance that along with CFS you could be experiencing other treatable problems like sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, anxiety, or depression which may be worsening your Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. It could be worthwhile to talk with your doctor about look at the possibility of another illness affecting your health.
Stress is a huge factor in your physical and mental health. Manage your stress by not overscheduling yourself, take time to rest, make time to get exercise and sunlight, and identify the causes of your stress and possible solutions.
Take Care of Yourself
When you’re sick, the number one priority is taking care of your health. Ensure you’re getting a balanced diet, take breaks, avoid indulging too much in alcohol or caffeine - these are all ways to start.
