Self-Care Is Important Through The Claim Process
It’s important that while this claim process is going on, to take care of yourself. Not just following your healthcare professional’s advice, but to find something which gives you a sense of calm and relief.
Misha's Story
Finding the right way to manage your stress is an essential part of the healing process. One of our clients, Misha, first came to our office feeling completely stressed, alone, and in over her head.
After experiencing dizziness, fatigue, vomiting, and diarrhea, Misha was finally diagnosed with Crohn’s disease. She had mostly been healthy leading up to this diagnosis, and getting a life-changing diagnosis at the age of 28 was a very dramatic shift. Misha worked at a major bank in downtown Calgary, and when she applied for short-term benefits her claim was denied on the basis that she was not sick enough to leave work.
Claim Denied
She couldn’t believe it. Could she really be denied? What was she going to do? Her stomach pains were so bad some days that she could hardly move. What if she just had to quit? What was she supposed to do with no income and being unable to work? She was overwhelmed by all these questions and the lack of support.
Misha scoured the internet searching for information about how she might be able to get help. At first she was skeptical about hiring a law firm to help her, but after reading experiences of past clients of Share Lawyers, she setup a free telephone consultation.
Share Lawyers Helped
Share Lawyers was were able to answer a lot of Misha’s concerns and guide her through the process.
Misha’s been feeling more confident about her options since the meeting. There are times; however, she still feels stressed about what her future is going to look like.
She started to take up meditation and yoga as a way to manage her stress, and it’s really been a help,. Yoga releases a lot of tension for me,” she admitted.
Finding an activity like yoga, meditation, swimming, hiking, stretching, or walking can all be beneficial during times of high stress such as going through the claim process.
Misha looks forward to finding more ways to manage and treat her new diagnosis, as well managing her stress, while Share Lawyers works to get the benefits she deserves.
