Fun Holiday Things to do Across Ontario in December!
December is finally upon us, and with the colder temperatures come a host of fun activities for the whole family over the holiday. Many of these events span the whole month of December, and are wonderful opportunities to get outside, enjoy some quality time with loved ones, and take part in some great activities across Ontario.
HOLIDAY IDEAS:
Santa Claus Parades - Across Ontario
The various Santa Claus Parades start at the beginning of December, and happen in many towns and cities across the province. Google Maps will tell you which ones are closest to you. We highly recommend these parades, they are wonderful to get out into the community.
Outdoor Ice Skating - Toronto and Ottawa
Every year, Toronto creates beautiful outdoor skating rinks that are open throughout December and into the New Year. Nathan Phillips Square offers a wonderful view of the Festival of Lights exhibition, and Natrel Rink at the Harbourfront Centre offers a beautiful view of the Toronto waterfront. Natrel Rink also offers Saturday night DJ dance skates during the month of December.
Ottawa boasts the most famous natural skating ‘rink’ in the country - the Rideau Canal. With almost 8km of skating through the heart of Ottawa with music and snack huts down the length of the canal, this is a unique experience for the whole family. While the Canal doesn’t officially open until January, it is a must-do activity for over the holidays if you are in the area.
Christmas Markets - Kitchener, Toronto, Collingwood
The Christkindl Market in Kitchener is Canada’s original German Christmas market, with traditional foods, stories, and holiday activities for the whole family. Toronto’s famous Christmas Market also begins in the Distillery District, with a distinctly European feel to the treats, activities, and music made for dancing.
Jingles & Joy at Blue Mountain in Collingwood hosts a free fireworks show every Saturday in December. Ontario’s biggest pedestrian Christmas market, the village at Blue Mountain has wonderful shops and restaurants, a Santa’s village, horse and buggy rides, and sits at the base of Blue Mountain, one of the province’s best skiing resorts.
Christmas Lights - Across Ontario
The Winter Festival of Lights in Niagara Falls is a beautiful exhibition that you can drive or stroll through, with scenes of both traditional and modern characters that the whole family will love. The lights run along the length of the Falls, which are also lit up in a myriad of colours for a wonderful holiday experience. These lights paired with the fun of Clifton Hill make this a fantastic outing that everyone will enjoy.
Various Events and Shows - Across Ontario
December hosts some of the best events and shows across the province, ranging from the One of a Kind Show in Toronto, showcasing homemade goods, food and drink, jewelry and fashion to more laid back events like the 12 Beers of Christmas event at the Gladstone Hotel.
There are also traditional performances like the National Ballet of Canada’s presentation of The Nutcracker, and Stratford, Ontario’s December Performance Showcase if you want to enjoy a more thespian-themed outing.
Whatever event you choose to do in December, there are hundreds of events happening across Ontario that are sure to delight the whole family. What are you planning to do this December? We’d love to hear from you! Contact Share Lawyers!
