COVID-19’s Impact on Exercise

Research indicates that while the majority of individuals who contract the coronavirus overcome their symptoms within a couple of weeks, there are instances where some continue to experience symptoms or even develop new ones three months after initially testing positive. These symptoms can persist for several months or even years.

According to a recent study published in Nature Communications, it's suggested that these persistent or worsening symptoms could be due to biological changes occurring in the bodies of those suffering from long COVID-19, particularly after physical exertion. The most significant changes were observed in the muscles. The research discovered that patients with long COVID experienced severe fatigue, alterations in muscle composition, and extensive muscle damage.
